Nicosia: An orange warning issued by the Department of Meteorology for extreme maximum temperatures will be in effect from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
According to Cyprus News Agency, temperatures inland are expected to reach approximately 43 degrees Celsius, while in the higher mountainous areas they will be around 34 degrees Celsius.
At the same time, the Department of Forests announced that the risk of outbreak and spread of forest fires will be at a red alert level. According to the press release, under the law, causing a fire constitutes an offence punishable by severe penalties.
The public is strongly urged to be especially cautious during outdoor activities, completely avoiding actions or operations that could cause a fire. Anyone who notices smoke or fire is asked to immediately call 1407 (Department of Forests) or 112 (Fire Service).
