Nicosia: A survey conducted by the Office of Electronic Communications and Postal Regulation (OCECPR) has revealed that a significant 78% of mobile phone connections consist of monthly packages offering unlimited minutes, SMS, and data.
According to Cyprus News Agency, 99% of the survey respondents are mobile phone users. Within this extensive group, 45% also own a landline phone, 87% have a fixed internet connection at home, and 46% subscribe to pay-TV services. The survey further highlights the breakdown of mobile connection types: 78% of users opt for unlimited packages, 14% select packages with specific limits, 5% have a simple monthly subscription, and 4% use prepaid connections.
Among the 23% of mobile users without unlimited talk plans, approximately 53% express concern over the cost of local calls. Additionally, 85% of users with mobile broadband access utilize apps for calls, attributing this to the perceived low or non-existent cost due to unlimited data. In contrast, only 57% of users with limite
d packages report using apps for calls.
The survey also explored web browsing habits, finding that 94% of respondents search for information online, 93% read emails, 93% use messaging apps, and 91% engage with social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram. The structured questionnaire was developed by the Market Observatory team of OCECPR and sampled 1,002 respondents from both urban (602) and rural (400) areas. The survey was conducted between May 14 and May 28, 2024.
