Nicosia: Fourteen students and two teachers who were stranded in Tanzania due to political unrest have safely returned to Cyprus. The group arrived on Wednesday morning, completing a complex repatriation operation.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the group had successfully returned from Kilwa, Tanzania. The return was organized following the recent turmoil in the African country. In addition to the group that returned to Cyprus, two other escorts are expected to return to Greece.
The Ministry detailed the route taken by the group, which involved an initial flight to Zanzibar, where they spent the night. This was followed by a journey to Larnaca via Dubai, a route specially arranged for their safe return.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has emphasized the importance for Cypriot citizens to remain vigilant and informed when traveling to regions experiencing crises or emergencies. They are advised to consult travel advisories and liaise with local diplomatic missions for guidance.
The successful repatriation was a collaborative effort facilitated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Cypriot High Commission in Nairobi, and the National Crisis Management Center, with significant support from the EU Delegation in Dar es Salaam.
