Strong Winds Persist as Cyprus Braces for More Gusts

Limassol: Winds waned but did not completely subside, strong winds expected Thursday, Met office tells CNA. Although the winds waned compared with the afternoon, they did not let up, Meteorological Officer Mattheos Papadakis told CNA on Wednesday evening, noting that fairly strong winds were expected towards Thursday afternoon as well.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Papadakis said that the intensity of the winds affecting the island waned on Wednesday evening compared to the afternoon, but that they did not completely subside. He also said that on Thursday, mainly towards noon, fairly strong winds were expected in several areas of Cyprus.

The Fire Service reported that the development of the fire that broke out earlier in the mountainous area of Limassol was very strong with alternating winds that directed the fire from one community to another. Ground forces will operate during in the area overnight.
