Agios Amvrosios Coordination Centre Evacuated as Fire Rages Unchecked

Nicosia: The coordination centre set up in the community of Agios Amvrosios was evacuated just after 9 p.m. as flames reached the village. Shortly before the evacuation, President Nicos Christodoulides and other ministers and officials had departed from the area as a precautionary measure.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the fire continues to burn uncontrollably, posing a significant challenge for firefighting forces that are expected to battle the blaze throughout the night. The situation remains precarious, with authorities urging the public to stay clear of affected areas.

Fire Service Spokesperson Andreas Kettis, in a post on X, announced the evacuation of the communities of Agios Amvrosios, Kyvides, and Souni. He appealed to the public to avoid using private vehicles to access these communities, as safety remains a top priority.

In another update, Kettis reported improvements in the fire situation in the Paphos district. Despite flare-ups and strong winds, the fire has been contained to a remote area covering a significant portion of the Ezousa riverbed near Agia Varvara in Paphos. The firefighting teams continue to monitor and manage the situation closely to prevent further spread.
