Nicosia: Stephanos Stephanou was re-elected on Sunday as General Secretary of the left-wing AKEL party during the last day of the Pancyprian Ordinary Congress held in Nicosia. He secured his position with the support of 781 delegates, representing 96.4% of the votes.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Stephanou emphasized the primary responsibility of addressing the Cyprus problem in his speech. He expressed the need for a solution that would free the homeland from Turkish occupation and enable the reunification of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots in a common bicommunal state without barriers.
Stephanou also commented on the situation in the Middle East, aligning the party’s stance with global efforts to defend peace and uphold international law in the region.
