Nicosia:The Association for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Family (SPAVO) has been awarded the 'Domestic Abuse Support NGO of the Year 2026/27' accolade at the Southern Europe Prestige Awards. This recognition highlights SPAVO's significant efforts in preventing and addressing domestic and gender-based violence in Cyprus.

According to Cyprus News Agency, SPAVO has been acknowledged for its 36 years of dedicated service in protecting and supporting victims of violence. The award also emphasizes SPAVO's role in developing specialized services and forming partnerships to combat the issue effectively.

The judging panel recognized SPAVO's comprehensive network of services that includes the 24-hour National Helpline 1440, emergency intervention services, counseling and psychological support, safe shelters for women and children, and the Woman's House. SPAVO also implements intervention programs for perpetrators to curb violent behavior and engages in cross-border cooperation and educational activities.

The Association expressed that the award is a testament to the contributions of its staff, volunteers, and partners. It dedicated the accolade to women, children, and all those who rely on its services, emphasizing the importance of having a system ready to listen, protect, and support victims when they come forward.

SPAVO reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its mission to safeguard victims of violence and to promote safety, dignity, and respect for every individual.
