Social Welfare Deputy Minister Embarks on Official Visit to Brussels

Brussels: Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Clea Papaellina, is travelling to Brussels on Monday, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Deputy Ministry, Yiannis Nikolaides, for an official visit, in the context of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU).

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare and the Secretariat of the Cyprus Presidency of the EU Council 2026 announced in a press release that the Deputy Minister will address the Working Group for the Establishment of the Child Guarantee in the European Parliament on Tuesday.

The statement further outlined that on January 29, Papaellina will participate in the Working Group on Labour and Social Policy Issues of the European Parliament, alongside the Ministers of Labour and Social Security and of the Interior. During this session, the priorities of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU on Labour and Social Policy will be presented and analyzed.

As part of her visit, the Deputy Minister will also have a meeting with the Director General of the General Secretariat of the Council of the EU, responsible for Agriculture, Fisheries, Social Affairs, and Health, David Brozina. The press release concluded by highlighting her expected discussions with MEPs on social policy and cooperation issues during the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, with a focus on supporting joint initiatives and promoting dossiers related to social rights and the protection of people in vulnerable situations.
