Nicosia: The official launch of the Smart Cyprus project, a national initiative aimed at shaping a modern, green, and sustainable development model for the entire island of Cyprus, took place on Tuesday. This project is set to transform the island through the effective use of technology.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy announced that the first phase of the project includes the implementation of three smart vertical solutions: smart lighting, smart parking, and smart waste management. Additionally, a mobile application will be developed to enhance communication and service for citizens.
The initial phase of the Smart Cyprus project is funded with £35 million from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. It also provides compensation for existing investments that have already been implemented by various municipalities across the island.
In his address, the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Dr. Nikodemos Damianou, emphasized the strategic importance of the project in shaping a digital, green, and resilient Cyprus. He highlighted that Smart Cyprus is not merely another technological intervention but a foundational infrastructure designed with interoperability and scalability in mind. This platform aims to bolster the smart, digital transition across the island.
