Deputy Minister for Shipping Vassilis Demetriades travels to Luxemburg to attend the EU Ministers of Transport Council to be held tomorrow.
According to a press release issued by the Deputy Ministry for Shipping, the Council will discuss the Fit for 55 package, which aims to reduce the EU’s greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030. The agenda with regard to Shipping also includes the Directive amending Directive 2003/25/EC introducing improved stability requirements for ro-ro passenger ships and harmonisation with the stability requirements set by the International Maritime Organisation.
In the sidelines of the Council, Demetriades will hold separate contacts with a number of his counterparts and European Commission officials to discuss efforts for the reduction of the maritime transport carbon footprint and other current issues affecting the competitiveness of European shipping, the Deputy Ministry said.
Next, the Cypriot Shipping Deputy Minister will travel to Athens to attend the International Maritime Exhibition “Posidonia” in the context of which he will meet with international maritime agents to promote Cyprus shipping.
