Severe Weather Conditions Forecasted for Cyprus Coastal Areas

Nicosia: Low pressure systems are set to affect the Cyprus sea area, bringing strong to near gale force winds and rough seas over the next 24 hours. The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a warning for the region, predicting mainly cloudy weather with local showers and isolated thunderstorms, with a risk of hail in storm-affected areas. According to Cyprus News Agency, the atmospheric pressure at the time of the forecast issuance was recorded at 1008 hPa. The warning, numbered 15, is in effect from 21:00 local time on December 30 until 09:00 local time on December 31. The coastal areas will experience southwest to west winds ranging from force 6 to 7 on the Beaufort scale, with some local areas experiencing winds at force 7. The state of the sea is expected to be moderate to rough, with localized conditions reaching rough. Visibility is anticipated to be good, but it may reduce to moderate or poor during showers. The sea surface temperature is noted to be 20°C. The forecast details specific condi tions for different coasts of Cyprus: West Coast: In the morning, southwest to west winds of 6 to 7 Beaufort, locally reaching 7, will make the sea moderate to rough. These conditions will slightly ease in the afternoon and night with winds gradually decreasing to 5 to 6 Beaufort. South Coast: Similar conditions are forecasted as the west coast, with morning winds reaching force 7 locally. The wind is expected to ease in the afternoon to 5 to 6 Beaufort and further decrease overnight. East Coast: Winds will range from 5 to 6 Beaufort, with offshore conditions reaching 6 to 7 in the morning. The sea will be moderate offshore, becoming moderate to rough. The winds will ease to 4 to 5 Beaufort in the afternoon and to slight to moderate by night. North Coast: Morning conditions will see southwest to west winds of 6 to 7 Beaufort, with offshore conditions occasionally reaching 7. The afternoon and night will see a gradual decrease in wind strength, settling at 5 to 6 Beaufort.
