Ryder Cup: Success for Rome and Italy says mayor

Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri said Sunday the Ryder Cup had been a success for Rome and for Italy.

“The 2023 Ryder Cup has been a historic success for Rome and Italy. My compliments to Team Europe for their splendid victory,” he said.

“It’s been beautiful to see the best golfers in the world play in front of tens of thousands of people, passionate like at a football match.

“The emotions, the moments of tension and the spectacular plays will remain impressed in our collective memory.

“This great sporting event has brought a wave of enthusiasm and passion to our community, demonstrating that Rome is an extraordinarily hospitable city and perfectly able to organize events of an international scope.

“All the planned works were realized in the scheduled time-frames and the whole organizational machine worked to the best.” Among the hugely successful figures notched up, he said were 62 million TV viewers around the world, and 270,000 tourists presences in the city.
