Russia says Ukrainian drone attacks thwarted in Bryansk and Kursk regions

Russia downed two Ukrainian drones in an attempted attack over the country’s southwestern Bryansk and Kursk regions, local media reported on Sunday.

Citing the Defense Ministry, Russian news agency Tass reported that Ukraine made ‘another attempt at terrorist attacks on the territory of the Russian Federation using aircraft-type UAVs.’

‘Two unmanned aerial vehicles were detected and destroyed in flight by air defense forces over the territory of the Bryansk and Kursk regions,’ it added.

Drone strikes inside Russia have dramatically increased in recent months, notably in Moscow, in Ukraine’s Crimea territory illegally annexed by Russia, and in Russian regions bordering Ukraine, with authorities accusing Ukraine of being behind them.

Although Kyiv has not claimed responsibility, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in July that the attacks on Russian territory are an ‘inevitable, natural and absolutely fair process.’

Commentators have said many ordinary Russians are insulated from the impact of the war, while for Ukrainians the war is a constant presence and deadly threat.
