Nicosia: The Department of Antiquities of the Deputy Ministry of Culture announced the repatriation of an ancient Cypriot vessel from the United States, which was handed over to the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Washington, D.C.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the vessel, a prochoske of White Painted V ware, dates to the Cypro-Archaic II period (600-480 BCE). The antiquity was identified in an online auction by officers monitoring the illegal trafficking of Cypriot antiquities and was withdrawn following consultation with the auction house.
The Department expressed gratitude to Kleinfelter's Auction Inc. and the possessor for the voluntary return of the vessel, as well as to the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Washington for their cooperation and coordination of the repatriation process.
