Nicosia: The risk of forest fires breaking out and spreading will be at 'Red Alert' level tomorrow, Friday, according to an announcement by the Department of Forests.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Department has issued a 'strong appeal' to members of the public, urging them to exercise extreme caution during outings and avoid any actions or activities that could potentially cause a fire. The announcement highlights the critical nature of the situation and the urgent need for public cooperation.
The authorities emphasized that causing a fire is a serious offence under the Forests Law and the Prevention and Suppression of Fires in the Countryside Law, carrying severe penalties. This serves as a stern reminder of the legal consequences of negligence or deliberate actions that could lead to fires.
In the event of noticing smoke or fire, individuals are strongly advised to immediately contact the authorities by calling 1407 for the Department of Forests or 112 for the Fire Service, ensuring prompt action to prevent the spread of fires.
