Nicosia: The Department of Forests has warned the public that the risk of forest fires breaking out and spreading on Tuesday has been upgraded from 'Extremely High' to 'Red Alert' level.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Department of Forests emphasized in a press release that in accordance with the Forests Law and the Law on the Prevention and Extinction of Fires in Open Country, causing a fire constitutes an offence punishable by severe penalties. The statement urges the public to be particularly cautious during their outings and to completely avoid any actions or activities that might lead to a fire.
In the event that smoke or a fire is spotted, the public is strongly encouraged to contact the authorities by calling 1407 for the Forest Department or 112 for the Fire Service immediately.
