Brussels: Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna will chair the General Affairs Council of the European Union that will take place on the 26th of May in Brussels.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Council will discuss the preparation of the European Council Summit, scheduled for 18-19 June 2026 in Brussels. Key topics include developments in Ukraine and the Middle East, the new Multiannual Financial Framework, global economic challenges concerning the EU's competitiveness and strategic autonomy, as well as European defense and security, migration, and the European Semester.
The Council's agenda will also cover EU-UK relations and a public debate on the proposal for the Multiannual Financial Framework 2028-2034, focusing on the single market. Ministers are set to engage in country-by-country discussions as part of the annual rule of law dialogue, specifically addressing issues in France, Croatia, Italy, and Latvia.
An informal breakfast meeting on the future of Europe will be organized, where Ministers will exchange views on strategic foresight analysis. During this session, the Commission is expected to briefly present its strategy on intergenerational justice.
Additionally, Raouna will preside over the 8th EU-Albania Intergovernmental Conference on behalf of the EU, scheduled for the afternoon of the same day. On the sidelines of the Council, the Deputy Minister plans to hold bilateral meetings with her counterparts and officials from EU institutions, as stated in the press release.
