Strasbourg: Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna will travel to Strasbourg Tuesday for a two-day working visit in preparation for the assumption of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the first half of 2026. The visit coincides with the plenary session of the European Parliament between 6-9 October, forming part of the Deputy Minister’s series of interactions with representatives of the European Parliament (EP).
According to Cyprus News Agency, the aim of the visit is to strengthen relations and cooperation with the European Parliament, which, as a co-legislator, plays a crucial role in ensuring a successful Presidency of the Council of the EU. Raouna is scheduled to meet with Committee Chairs to discuss the priorities of the Cyprus Presidency and exchange views on significant legislative files and initiatives that will impact the Union in the near future. These discussions are essential for her role in representing the Council at the Plenary Sessions of the European Parliament and before the Conference of Committee Chairs during the Cyprus Presidency, as stated by the Cyprus EU Secretariat.
Furthermore, during the six-month presidency period, the Deputy Minister for European Affairs, along with other competent Ministers, will present before the EP Committees, fulfilling the institutional duties of the Presidency. During her stay in Strasbourg, Raouna will also engage in meetings with Cypriot Members of the European Parliament (MEPs).
