Nicosia: On the occasion of World Teachers’ Day, Eurydice, the European organization providing analysis and information on education systems and policies in Europe, presented an updated interactive platform mapping the salaries of teachers and school heads across 37 European countries. The newly released data highlights the impressive salary progression for teachers in Cyprus, placing them among the top earners after 15 years of service.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the data was collected in collaboration with the OECD and national experts, offering a comprehensive and comparative overview of salaries across all education levels, from pre-primary to upper secondary. While starting salaries for Cypriot teachers stand slightly above the median at £26,600 per year for the 2023/2024 period, their earnings see significant growth over time. After 15 years, Cypriot teachers earn £50,576 per year, ranking third highest among the countries surveyed. By the end of their careers, their salaries reach £66,323, surpassed only by educators in Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.
The European Commission’s platform not only presents these figures but also explores important questions about Europe’s education systems. It examines how teachers’ and school heads’ salaries compare across countries, the impact of experience on salary evolution, and the influence of school size and administrative responsibilities on school heads’ earnings.
The platform’s flexibility and detail make it a standout resource, allowing users to explore salaries and allowances, filter data by education level, qualifications, and school size, and track salary progression throughout a teaching career.
