Limassol: The International Conference titled ‘The Life and Contribution of Pythagoras to Mathematics, Science, and Philosophy’ was successfully conducted at the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) in Limassol on October 3-4, 2025. This event was organized under the auspices of Dr. Athina Michaelidou, Minister of Education, Sport and Youth, and co-organized by five prominent institutions, including the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute and the Cyprus University of Technology.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Opening Ceremony featured speeches from key figures such as the Minister of Education, the Vice-Rector for Financial Planning and Development of CUT, Professor Evangelos Akylas, and Mr. Themistoklis Papatheophanous, the Mayor of Western Samos, the birthplace of Pythagoras. The ceremony also included an artistic program that enriched the proceedings with an intellectual dimension.
The two-day conference hosted speakers from Switzerland, France, Poland, and Greece, alongside distinguished researchers and educators from Cyprus and beyond. Topics ranged from mathematics, science, and philosophy to astronomy, Pythagorean thought, music, nutrition, and Artificial Intelligence.
A significant highlight of the event was the unveiling of a bust of Pythagoras by Dr. Elena Hadjikakou, Director of the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute. The bust, crafted by sculptor Panagiotis Pasantas, now graces the courtyard of the Andreas Themistocleous building at CUT.
The Cyprus University of Technology played a pivotal role in supporting the conference, with contributions from academics, administrative staff, students, and representatives from collaborating institutions ensuring the event’s success. The conference effectively merged diverse fields such as mathematics, philosophy, and astronomy with innovation and culture.
The conference papers are set to be published in a special issue of the scientific journal of the Cyprus Mathematical Society (C.M.S), and related photographic material can be accessed on the conference website.
