Professor Despo Fatta-Kassinos Receives Prestigious Grant for EMEC 2025 Plenary

Nicosia: Professor Despo Fatta-Kassinos has been awarded the Prince Sultan Water Specialist Event Participation Grant for her upcoming role as a plenary speaker at the 25th European Meeting on Environmental Chemistry (EMEC 2025) in Crete, Greece. This is the second time she has received this specialist grant, highlighting her leadership in the field of water research.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water (PSIPW) administers the Specialist Grant, which supports scientific event organizers in featuring prominent water scientists as plenary speakers. Selection criteria for the grant include the innovative nature of the recipient’s work related to water research.

Professor Fatta-Kassinos, affiliated with the University of Cyprus’ Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, is known for her research on wastewater-borne micropollutants, antimicrobial resistance, and advanced engineering approaches to water-quality outcomes. During the EMEC 2025 plenary, she will discuss strategies for mitigating chemical and biological risks in the water cycle and translating scientific advancements into practical engineering and policy solutions.

Expressing her gratitude, Professor Fatta-Kassinos stated, “I am honored by EMEC’s selection and PSIPW’s approval. This Specialist Grant accelerates vital exchanges between disciplines, chemistry, microbiology, analytics, and systems engineering, so we can deliver water solutions that are both innovative and implementable.”

The Prince Sultan Water Specialist Event Participation Grant, named in honor of HRH Crown Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, supports PSIPW’s mission to encourage water-related research. The grant facilitates the participation of leading scientists as plenary and keynote speakers at significant scientific events.
