President Urges Patience from Trade Unions Amid CoLA Discussions

Nicosia: President Nikos Christodoulides has called on trade unions to hold off on any strike actions and allow the current dialogue over the Cost of Living Allowance (CoLA) to proceed, emphasizing the need for patience until the discussions yield results. The President’s comments come in light of the unions’ decision to initiate a three-hour general strike on September 11.

According to Cyprus News Agency, President Christodoulides responded to media inquiries regarding potential actions following the unions’ strike decision. He highlighted the importance of the forthcoming meetings between the Labour Minister, trade unions, and employers, indicating these discussions as pivotal in addressing the CoLA issue. The President acknowledged the unions’ right to strike and the legitimacy of their decisions but expressed his belief that striking amidst ongoing dialogue may not contribute to reaching a resolution on the matter.

President Christodoulides reiterated his stance that it is crucial to await the outcome of the current negotiations before taking further measures.
