Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades on Sunday will lay the foundation stone for the upgraded fishing shelter in Liopetri in the southeastern coast of Cyprus.
According to a press release issued by the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research, the project is considered as one of the largest infrastructure works in the fishing sector of Cyprus and is estimated to be concluded in November 2023 with a total cost of €11 million.
The works in the fishing shelter, which will have 112 berths, include wooden docks, launching ramp, dry docking and storage facilities.
At the same time the project also features the upgrading of the surrounding areas, contributing to the preservation of the natural environment in the region of the Liopetri river, such as fishing training centre, space for event hosting, pedestrian and cycle lanes and parking areas.
