President of House of Representatives Meets Polish Minister to Discuss Digital Affairs and Regional Issues

Nicosia: President of the House of Representatives Annita Demetriou welcomed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs of Poland, Krzysztof Gawkowski, during his official visit to Cyprus. The visit was initiated by Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Nikodemos Damianou.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Demetriou emphasized the significance of Cyprus presiding over the Council of the European Union this semester, noting that digital transformation is a priority on the European agenda. She highlighted the urgent need for a modern and effective legislative framework to support this transformation.

Demetriou also addressed the ongoing issue of the Cyprus problem, pointing out that the Turkish occupation of part of the Republic of Cyprus continues to deny many Cypriot citizens the right to access their properties in the occupied regions. She reiterated the Greek Cypriot side's commitment to resuming negotiations for a just and sustainable resolution in line with relevant UN resolutions and EU principles.

Gawkowski, on his part, outlined Poland's digital policy priorities and emphasized the necessity of cooperation among EU Member States to tackle shared challenges, particularly in cybersecurity and digital resilience. He also discussed the hybrid attacks on Poland's critical infrastructure and the migration challenges arising from the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

He concluded by expressing gratitude for Cyprus's initiative to provide humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza.
