Nicosia: The President of the Hellenic Parliament, Nikitas Kaklamanis, has commenced his official engagements in Cyprus, marking his first visit to the island following his election. Kaklamanis’s itinerary includes a series of significant meetings and ceremonial activities, emphasizing the strong ties between Greece and Cyprus.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Kaklamanis’s visit began with a reception by the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides. This was followed by a meeting with Annita Demetriou, the President of the Cypriot Parliament. A highlight of the visit includes Kaklamanis addressing a special session of the House Plenary at noon.
During the two-day visit, Kaklamanis is scheduled to meet with the Archbishop of Cyprus, Georgios, as well as leaders and representatives from various political parties. His visit coincides with Cyprus’s Independence Day, and he will attend the military parade commemorating the 65th anniversary of the Republic of Cyprus’s independence.
In addition to these meetings, Kaklamanis will participate in several ceremonial activities. He is set to lay wreaths at notable memorials, including the Tomb of Makedonitissa, the tombs of EOKA heroes, and the Hero’s Monument at the ELDYK camp in Malounta. These acts are part of his official duties during the visit, underscoring the historical and cultural connections shared by Greece and Cyprus.
