Nicosia: President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides held a telephone conversation with US President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday, during which they expressed a common intention to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Cyprus and the US.
According to Cyprus News Agency, a written statement by Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis detailed that during their conversation, President Christodoulides congratulated Trump on his election and emphasized the intention to work closely together to further strengthen the ties between the two countries.
The Spokesman noted that special reference was made to the broad cooperation between the two countries and the high level they have recently achieved in areas such as defense and security, investment, the economy, as well as the provision of humanitarian aid and crisis management in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
They also expressed a common intention that within the framework of the strategic relationship and the Strategic Dialogue between
Cyprus and the United States, bilateral cooperation in various areas should be expanded and strengthened, benefiting both countries and the region in general.
Additionally, they discussed developments in the Eastern Mediterranean region, with President Christodoulides stressing that Cyprus remains a close and reliable partner of the United States in efforts to promote peace, stability, and development in the region.
Meanwhile, in a post on ‘X’, President Christodoulides wrote that he had an excellent discussion with Trump. “I congratulated him on his election victory and we expressed our shared commitment to continue enhancing the CY-US strategic partnership. We will work together to further reinforce our relations for the benefit of our countries and the region,” he concluded.
