Cyprus President, Nikos Christodoulides, is in Cairo where he will participate in a meeting between European leaders and the President of Egypt, a press release from the Presidency said on Sunday.
The meeting is part of the EU-Egypt Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership during which a Joint Declaration will be signed between the EU and Egypt, it said.
At around noon, the President of the Republic was to take part in a meeting with the other European leaders participating in the summit, namely the Prime Ministers of Greece, Italy, Belgium, the Chancellor of Austria and the President of the European Commission.
European leaders will then head to the Presidential Palace, for separate bilateral meetings with Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, it added.
It is noted that the bilateral meeting of President Christodoulides with his Egyptian counterpart is to take place at around 2pm.
At 3pm, a meeting between the President of Egypt and all the participating European leaders is scheduled, followed, at 4.
30pm, by extended talks with the participation of the delegations of the countries participating in the meeting.
After that, President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and President al-Sisi will sign the Joint Declaration in the presence of all the leaders.
At around 6pm, the seven leaders are expected to make statements to the media.
The President of Egypt will then host a dinner in honour of the European leaders.
President Christodoulides, who is accompanied by Government Spokesperson, Konstantinos Letymbiotis, the Head of his Diplomatic Office, Doros Venezis and officials, is to return to Cyprus on Sunday evening.
