Nicosia: President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, referred to the close cooperation between Cyprus and Egypt during his meeting today at the Presidential Palace with the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum, Karim Badawi, who is in Nicosia representing Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi at the opening ceremony of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU.
According to Cyprus News Agency, welcoming the Egyptian Minister, the President of the Republic emphasized the priority of bringing the European Union closer to the region, especially Egypt, during Cyprus's Presidency. He stated that Egypt is a strategic partner of the EU and a pillar of stability in a region filled with challenges and opportunities, particularly through Cyprus-Egypt cooperation.
The President highlighted energy as a key topic on his agenda, mentioning a scheduled meeting with a senior ENI executive. He underscored the importance of exploiting the "Kronos" deposit and stressed the need for coordination to expedite developments.
In a post on X, President Christodoulides described the meeting as "particularly constructive," reiterating Cyprus's commitment to advocating for stronger EU engagement with Egypt during its Presidency. He expressed optimism for close coordination in advancing shared priorities.
