Nicosia: Cyprus President, Nikos Christodoulides, had on Monday a telephone conversation with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) President, Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan, to whom he expressed the sincere and deepest gratitude of the Republic of Cyprus for his country’s immediate and generous response to the Republic’s request to provide mobile desalination units, in the context of efforts to cover Cyprus’ needs in water, Government Spokesman, Konstantinos Letymbiotis said in a written statement.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Letymbiotis noted that during their talk, President Christodoulides invited the President of the United Arab Emirates to visit Cyprus. He said that the visit would be an excellent opportunity for the further enhancement of the excellent bilateral relations, for expanding the current and new areas of cooperation, both at the bilateral and the regional level and for coordinating actions to the benefit of stability and welfare in the region.
The Spokesman said that the current context is con
sidered to be an ideal one, in view of the upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU by the Republic of Cyprus as of January 2026, and that President Christodoulides informed the UAE President that a key priority of the Cypriot Presidency will be the further strengthening of the EU-Gulf Cooperation Council relations.
Letymbiotis noted that during their telephone contact the two leaders also exchanged views on regional developments, while Christodoulides informed the UAE President on his recent meetings with leaders of the region, in the framework of ongoing diplomatic efforts to promote peace, stability and dialogue in the region.
The Spokesman stressed that the Republic of Cyprus remains focused on its strategic cooperation with UAE and expresses the conviction that the friendship and solidarity demonstrated during crucial moments constitute the foundation for an even closer and more multidimensional cooperation in the future.
