During his visit, Lacroix is anticipated to engage with authorities from both sides to discuss the current situation and the role of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) in maintaining stability on the island. The discussions will focus on facilitating dialogue, preventing tensions, and maintaining calm within and around the buffer zone.
Regarding the situation in Pyla, government sources informed the Cyprus News Agency that calm prevails in the area, with the situation being monitored through continuous communication with the peacekeeping force. UNFICYP had previously reported that peacekeepers increased patrols and maintained a visible presence on the ground. This action followed the observation of unauthorized entry by Turkish Cypriot security personnel into the United Nations buffer zone in Pyla.
