Madrid: President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, is set to travel to Madrid and Lisbon as part of his overseas engagements in preparation for Cyprus’ upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2026. His itinerary also includes attending the European People’s Party (EPP) Congress in Valencia, Spain.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the President’s discussions in Spain and Portugal will address priorities for the Cyprus EU Presidency, broader European issues, developments in the Cyprus problem, bilateral relations, and the Middle East situation. Accompanied by Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna, Press Office Director Viktoras Papadopoulos, and other officials, President Christodoulides will meet Spanish Prime Minister Pedro S¡nchez in Madrid on April 28.
Later, President Christodoulides is scheduled to meet King Felipe of Spain for a luncheon at the Palace, before traveling to Lisbon. On April 29, he will hold talks with Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, followed by expanded discussions between the delegations of both nations.
The Presidency further states that President Christodoulides will then proceed to Valencia to participate in the EPP Congress, where elections for the new EPP leadership will take place. The proceedings will include a dinner attended by leaders of EPP member countries and the newly elected leadership.
During the Summit on April 30, President Christodoulides is expected to make an intervention and engage in bilateral meetings on the sidelines. He will return to Cyprus the same evening.
