Cyprus President Announces Additional Financial Aid to Scouts Association

Limassol: President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, announced on Saturday additional financial support for the Cyprus Scout Association. Energy, Commerce and Industry Minister George Papanastasiou delivered the President’s speech during an event in honor of the scouts’ patron, Saint George, in Limassol. The speech highlighted that the scouts movement in Cyprus dates back to 1913, when Cypriot volunteers introduced the ideals of the global scouts movement from Alexandria, Egypt.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the President announced an additional financial support of 20,000 euros for the scouts association. This comes after the state sponsorship was increased from 50,000 to 70,000 euros two years ago. The newly announced support will be distributed over a period of five years and will be used to upgrade the association’s camping sites across the island.

The President emphasized the ideals and virtues of the scouts movement and noted that with the foundation of the Cyprus Republic in 1960, the Cyprus Scout Association was internationally recognized as a member of the World Scouts Organization. The association currently has over 5,000 members who are active through 50 systems throughout Cyprus.
