Nicosia: President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, participated on Sunday in Thessaloniki, in events honoring the city’s Patron Saint, Saint Demetrius, following an invitation by the State Authorities. The President also inaugurated the Chair of Cyprus Studies at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, invited by the Rectoral Authorities.
According to Cyprus News Agency, a press release issued by the Presidency indicated that President Christodoulides attended a doxology at the Church of Saint Demetrius alongside the President of the Hellenic Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas. Later, he joined an official luncheon hosted by General Dimitrios Choupis, Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, and Lieutenant General Athanasios Garinis, Commander of the Supreme Military Command of Epirus-Macedonia, at the Thessaloniki Guard Officers’ Club.
In the afternoon, President Christodoulides inaugurated the Chair of Cyprus Studies at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. During the University’s annual event celebrating Saint Demetrius, the 113th anniversary of the city’s liberation, and the Epic of 1940, he delivered a speech. At the event, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki authorities awarded honorary medals to the Presidents of Cyprus and Greece.
President Christodoulides, who was accompanied by Victor Papadopoulos, Director of the President’s Press Office, and other officials, planned to return to Cyprus late in the evening.
