President Christodoulides and Netanyahu Discuss Implementation of Agreements

Nicosia: The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, engaged in a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday. The discussion was centered on the execution of agreements established during their recent meetings.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Deputy Government Spokesperson Yiannis Antoniou issued a written statement noting that the conversation followed their bilateral meeting and the 10th Cyprus-Greece-Israel Trilateral Summit held in Israel on December 22, 2025. This dialogue also came after Netanyahu's visit to the United States, where he met with US President Donald Trump.

The focus of the discussion was on implementing the agreements made between the leaders in their recent meetings. Special emphasis was placed on the electrical interconnection project, particularly the Israel-Cyprus section, as part of the India-Middle East Economic Corridor (IMEC). The leaders also discussed promoting cooperation on energy issues and enhancing defence cooperation between the two countries. Furthermore, the conversation touched on the progress of the US President's peace plan for Gaza.

Antoniou concluded by stating that the two leaders reaffirmed the strategic importance of Cyprus-Israel relations and expressed their willingness to continue close coordination and cooperation, building on the momentum created through recent decisions.
