President Christodoulides and CoE SG discuss CoE agenda and Cyprus issue

President Nikos Christodoulides and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejcinovic Buric, discussed here on Monday issues concerning the agenda of the Council of Europe, recent developments on the Cyprus problem and the ongoing efforts to restart negotiations as well as various aspects of the problem.

According to a written statement by the Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis, the President and the CoE Secretary General had a private meeting at the Presidential Palace followed by a working lunch, in the context of Buric’s visit to Cyprus.

As noted they discussed the agenda of the Council of Europe, the situation in the Cyprus problem and the ongoing efforts to restart negotiations, the humanitarian issue of missing persons, dealing with aspects of the 4th Interstate Application of Cyprus against Turkey, the Turkish violations of the status quo of the enclosed city of Famagusta, as well as Piero Fascino’s report on Famagusta adopted at the Spring Session of the Parliamentary A
ssembly of the Council of Europe.

“President Christodoulides underlined the need for closer and regular coordination of Cyprus and the EU itself with the Council of Europe to promote issues related to the principles and values it advocates and thanked Buric for the work she accomplished as General Secretary in view of the end of her term,” Letymbiotis said.
