President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, travels to Brussels this week to take part in two high level summits. He will also hold bilateral talks with Slovakia’s President Zuzana Caputova.
Director of the President’s Press Office, Andreas Iosif said in a written statement that on Monday, President Anastasiades will meet with Caputova at the Presidential Palace.
During the meeting, he will express his deep appreciation for the principled stance of Slovakia on the Cyprus problem and the country’s dedication to international law.
He will also inform Caputova on the repercussions of the continued occupation of Cyprus as a result of the 1974 Turkish invasion of the island, as well as Turkey’s provocative actions in the fenced off area of Famagusta and Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone and territorial waters. The two countries maintain excellent bilateral and multilateral relations. In addition, Slovakia participates in the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces in Cyprus and encourages dialogue between Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties.
On Monday, President Anastasiades will also address a gathering to honour athletes who have taken part in international events during 2022.
On Wednesday, 14 December, President Anastasiades will be in Brussels to take part in the ?U- Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit, celebrating the 45th Anniversary of their dialogue partnership.
On Thursday, President Anastasiades will take part in the European Council summit. On the agenda for discussion are the Ukraine/Russia issue, energy and economy, security and defence, the southern neighbourhood and external relations.
Back home, on Friday he will attend a gathering of the Kormakitis association.
