Nicosia: The successful hosting of the Handover Meeting of the Presidency and the Meeting of the Board of Governors of the European Schools 2024-2025, in Nicosia, brought international recognition and consolidated the role of Cyprus as an important partner, Minister of Education, Sport and Youth, Athena Michaelidou, said on Thursday. She was speaking at a press conference on the results of the Cyprus Presidency of the European Schools 2024-2025, noting that Cyprus, within the framework of its Presidency, ‘with responsibility and consistency’, has shaped a new framework that ensures continuity, strengthens credibility and opens paths for the future.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Cyprus held the rotating presidency of the Board of Governors of the European Schools – composed of the Ministers of Education of each of the EU member states – for the first time since joining the EU. Listing the four strategic priorities of the Presidency, Michaelidou referred to the well-being of teachers, the strengthening of the school as a community, the promotion of sustainability and the strengthening of administrative efficiency, which, as she said, formed the basis of a coherent and ambitious educational strategy, which concerns not only European schools, but also the wider European and Cypriot learning ecosystem.
The Minister also said that trilateral cooperation between Cyprus, Italy and Latvia (the Trio Presidency) has strengthened the succession and continuity in the leadership of the institution, noting that Cyprus, as the country presiding over the institution, for the first time since its accession to the European Union, has chosen to take advantage of this opportunity to manage institutional tasks and to give new momentum and substance to European cooperation in education, within the framework of the European Schools.
