Preparations continue for the World Central Kitchen (WCK) to dispatch a second ship to Gaza, ‘Jennifer”, loaded with humanitarian aid from Larnaca Port.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman, Theodoros Gotsis told CNA on Sunday that preparations continue to enable the ship sail to Gaza the soonest possible.
A WCK representative said on social media that a support vessel will escort the larger vessel carrying hundreds of tons of aid. The support vessel is carrying the crew that will operate the heavy machinery on board, a mobile crane. There are also forklifts and pallet jacks. “And this crew is going to be able to discharge all of those pallets”, noting it is a “very technical maneuver” but it has been done before “and we’re going to do it again”, the representative added.
A special operation will take place to unload Jennifer once it arrives in Gaza, due to the geomorphology of the seabed and the shallow water levels as large ships cannot reach Gaza’s shores.
Already nearly 200 tons of humanitarian aid w
as unloaded in safety in Gaza by WCK after the “Open Arms” ship which left from Larnaca Port on Tuesday arrived on Friday. The ship returned to Larnaca on Sunday.
Jennifer has an 80 metre length 80. It arrived at Larnaca port from Rhodes and sailed under the flag of Guinea-Bissau.
A total of 500 tons of humanitarian aid have been loaded onto the ship, which arrived from abroad by air at Larnaca airport and from there was transferred to a warehouse at the town’s port.
The humanitarian aid that ‘Jennifer’ will carry includes sugar, flour, pasta, canned food and milk.
The humanitarian aid underwent security checks in the presence of Israelis and then loaded onto the ship in packaged pallets.
