Nicosia: The possibility of power cuts due to marginal coverage of electricity demand as a result of high temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday is not ruled out, the Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSO) said in a press release.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the TSO has issued a warning stating that on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, and the subsequent day, temperatures are forecasted to soar to 45°C. This extreme heat, coupled with technical problems and limitations, is expected to stretch the coverage of electricity demand between 18:30-22:00 significantly.
The TSO emphasized that the potential for consumer load cuts for safety reasons cannot be excluded. If such measures are deemed necessary, the duration of these cuts will not exceed thirty minutes for each consumer group.
In a bid to alleviate the strain on the electricity system, intensive efforts are being made to restore the availability of Generation Units, though this has not yet been achieved.
Additionally, the TSO has once again urged consumers to conserve electricity during these critical hours. They assured that any power cuts implemented will prioritize the safe and reliable operation of the electrical system, which remains their utmost concern.
