Nicosia: A cultural event featuring the renowned traditional dance and music ensemble ‘Warszawianka’ from the University of Warsaw is set to take place at the University of Cyprus. The event is organized in collaboration with the Polish Embassy to mark Poland’s current presidency of the European Union. An agreement signing between the University of Cyprus and the University of Warsaw is also scheduled as part of the celebrations.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the University of Cyprus issued a press release stating that ‘Warszawianka’ will deliver an engaging performance, showcasing students and graduates from various faculties of the University of Warsaw. The ensemble is set to present a diverse array of traditional Polish national dances, including the Polonaise, Mazurka, Krakowiak, Kujawiak, and Oberek.
The event is designed to celebrate and enhance multiculturalism, cooperation, and interaction between Cyprus and Poland. It aims to promote folklore not only as a form of entertainment but also as a tool for historical education, thereby strengthening cultural connections between the two nations, as highlighted in the press release.
Scheduled for Tuesday, January 21, at 6 p.m. in the Ceremonial Hall of the University of Cyprus, the event will also feature the signing of an agreement between the two universities. This agreement seeks to foster collaboration in academic, educational, and cultural domains.
Speeches at the event will be delivered by the Rector of the University of Cyprus, Professor Tasos Christofides, the Polish Ambassador Marek Szczepanowski, and the Vice-Rector of the University of Warsaw, Ewa Krogulec.
