Brussels: The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Dr. Maria Panayiotou, is set to travel to Brussels today to take part in the Council of Agriculture and Fisheries Ministers of the European Union (EU), scheduled for November 18, 2024.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture has announced that discussions will focus on the current situation of agricultural markets and commodities. Key topics include the impact of the ongoing invasion of Ukraine and the climate crisis on agriculture. Dr. Panayiotou is expected to present Cyprus’s proposals aimed at providing more effective support to farmers.
Additionally, the Council will address the 2025 fishing opportunities in various seas, including the Atlantic, the North Sea, the Mediterranean, and the Black Sea. These discussions aim to prepare for the December Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting. Dr. Panayiotou is scheduled to return to Cyprus on Tuesday, November 19.
