Over Half a Million Voters Registered for Upcoming Cypriot Parliamentary Elections

Nicosia: A total of 561,252 voters are registered for the parliamentary elections scheduled for May 24th, as reported by the Permanent Secretary of the Interior Ministry, Elikkos Elia, to the Cyprus News Agency. Among these, 837 Turkish Cypriots are eligible to vote with a Cyprus Republic ID and address.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Elia stated that letters will soon be sent to 18-year-olds to encourage registration on the electoral roll. Additionally, two campaigns will be launched in collaboration with the Press and Information Office to boost voter registration. Elia highlighted that 603 new voter registrations were recorded from October 3, 2025, to January 2, 2026, and 775 applications have been submitted since January 3.

Elia also noted that 26 parties are currently registered, with three new applications under review. With less than two months left to register, the deadline is set for April 2nd. All Cypriot citizens aged 18 and above, who have been permanent residents for the past six months, are eligible to register.

For voters aged up to 25 years, online registration is available through the elections website. Paper applications can be submitted to District Administration Offices, Citizen Service Centers, and Post Offices.

Regarding polling stations abroad, Elia mentioned that at least 30 voters from each district must express interest by April 2nd to facilitate their operation. A special electoral roll will be drawn up for these stations, which will require a minimum of 600 voters per center. Cities expected to meet this requirement include Athens, Thessaloniki, Patra, London, and Manchester.

Elia recalled that in the 2021 elections, polling centers operated in Athens, Thessaloniki, and London, but not in Patra and Manchester. For the upcoming elections, Brussels has been added as an option due to the presence of many Cypriots working there. Voters can submit their declarations to vote abroad online or in paper form at relevant embassies, consulates, and service centers.
