Larnaka: More than 13,000 runners from 85 countries are set to participate in this year’s 8th Radisson Blu Larnaka International Marathon, scheduled for November 16th along the Finikoudes seafront avenue. Participants of all ages will join the event, which is recognized as a significant sporting occasion.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Mayor Andreas Vyras, speaking at a press conference at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Larnaka, expressed surprise at the event’s growth, noting its evolution to host thousands of runners from numerous countries. He emphasized that the Marathon has become not only a sporting event but also a cultural and tourism attraction that promotes Larnaka on an international scale.
Vyras highlighted that within just eight years, the Marathon has positioned Larnaka on the global map of major sports events, emerging as one of the largest sports gatherings in Cyprus.
Makis Nicolaou, General Manager of the Radisson Blu Hotel, remarked on the Marathon’s significance since its inception in 2017, citing last year’s participation of over 12,000 runners from 85 countries as a testament to its growing reputation.
Constantinos Daltas, Executive Director of the Radisson Blu Larnaka International Marathon, noted the Marathon’s role in inspiring and uniting people of all backgrounds. He anticipated a new attendance record this year, with over 13,000 runners and a national record participation in the Marathon race, featuring more than 1,000 marathon runners.
During the event, organizers also introduced the official Larnaka Marathon medal, designed by Cypriot artist Theodoros Kakoullis.
