Over 100 Representatives Engage in Media Forum Promoting China-Cyprus-Europe Relations

Nicosia: Over 100 representatives from media organizations, government agencies, diplomatic missions, universities, think tanks, and enterprises from China, Cyprus, and other European countries are participating in the China-Cyprus-Europe Media Forum, taking place in Nicosia from October 21 to 23. The forum is a collaborative effort by the Chinese Embassy in Cyprus, the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation, Cyprus Mail, Xinhua News Agency Europe Bureau, China Media Group European Bureau, and Kuaishou Technology.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the forum, themed ‘Era of Great Transformation: A Shared Future for Humanity-Deepening Media Exchanges and Cooperation, and Jointly Shaping a Bright Future for China-Cyprus and China-Europe Relations’, includes in-depth discussions on topics such as ‘Media Interactions and Cooperation Boost the Development of China-Cyprus and China-Europe Relations’, ‘Media’s Shared Social and International Responsibilities in the Era of Great Transformation’, and ‘Media Development with AI Empowerment: Cooperation and Regulation’. The event will also feature a special TV program.

The forum includes various activities such as a media partnership pitch event, joint media exhibition, joint interview, and field visits. It will culminate in the issuance of the Declaration of China-Cyprus-Europe Media Forum and the signing of cooperation agreements among the participating media organizations.

As noted, the upcoming years mark significant anniversaries, including the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union in 2025, and in 2026, the 55th anniversary of China-Cyprus diplomatic ties and Cyprus’s rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union. In this context, the forum seeks to create a platform for dialogue, fostering exchanges among Chinese, Cypriot, and European media, and aims to contribute to the healthy development of China-Cyprus and China-Europe relations.

In a video message during the forum’s opening ceremony, Annita Demetriou, President of the House of Representatives, emphasized the media’s role in strengthening bilateral relations amidst global crises and geopolitical tensions. She highlighted Cyprus’s appreciation for China’s support regarding the Cyprus problem and the ongoing efforts to achieve a just settlement.

Demetriou also praised the Chinese Embassy in Nicosia and Ambassador Liu Yantao for their contributions to strengthening Cyprus-China relations. She stated that the House of Representatives supports initiatives that foster dialogue and cooperation, addressing challenges like disinformation and promoting responsible journalism.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, following the invasion and occupation of 37% of its territory by Turkish troops.
