Nicosia: Nominations for the 2025 Cyprus Research Awards are now open, as announced in a press release by the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF). For the 18th consecutive year, the awards aim to honor and highlight the work of young and distinguished scientists in Cyprus, promoting excellence and encouraging research and innovative activities in the country.
According to Cyprus News Agency, this year’s awards will be presented in three categories: ‘Distinguished Researcher,’ ‘Young Researcher,’ and ‘Commercial Exploitation of Research Results.’ Candidates must be nominated by another person and will be evaluated based on information they are required to submit to RIF regarding their research work, achievements, and impact.
The deadline for nominations is September 19, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. The relevant invitations with detailed terms and conditions for participation are available on the IRIS portal. There is no limit to the number of candidates an individual or organization can nominate.
The ‘Cyprus Research Award – Distinguished Researcher 2025’ will be awarded to scientists with more than seven years of research experience post-doctorate, who have achieved significant and internationally recognized results. This year’s award will focus on the field of Social Sciences and Humanities, with winners receiving a grant of £60,000 to continue their research.
The ‘Cyprus Research Award – Young Researcher 2025’ targets young scientists with less than seven years of experience since obtaining their doctoral degree. They must have demonstrated high-quality research activity in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences and Engineering, or Social Sciences and Humanities. Winners will receive a grant of £60,000 to employ a doctoral student or postdoctoral researcher.
Lastly, the ‘Cyprus Award for Commercial Exploitation of Research Results 2025’ will be awarded to scientists or teams who have successfully commercialized their research results in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences and Engineering, or Social Sciences and Humanities. The winner will receive a grant of £60,000 to enhance the commercial readiness of their research through research and development activities (TRL 4-8).
