Nicosia: Power outages are unlikely to occur in the coming days, Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSO) spokesperson, Chara Kousiappa, told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), noting that there is sufficient coverage of the demand and the reserves can immediately cover potential loss of a production unit.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Kousiappa stated that the maximum demand over the past couple of days has been around 1,200 MW during the day, while in the evening it was at 950 - 1,000 MW. She explained that such demand is fully covered, as the available production capacity exceeds 1,240 MW. She noted that the reserves can also cover the loss of a unit without causing problems.
"There is no expectation of power cuts or problems in meeting this demand," Kousiappa told CNA, explaining that "in the event of a loss of a production unit, any disturbance will be brief." She added that there is a decrease in demand compared to the records that had been recorded last July, which raised issues with the coverage.
She also noted that at this time the coverage of demand is satisfactory and as of August 15, the demand is expected to be even lower. After this period, Kousiappa continued, and with the return of those who are on vacation, as well as the potential change in temperatures, the situation will be reassessed.
