Nikos Christodoulides proclaimed President amid intense celebrations by his supporters

Newly elected President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, was declared, on Sunday evening the 8th President during a ceremony that took place at “Tassos Papadopoulos-Eleftheria” Indoor Hall and which was attended by hundreds of his supporters who chanted slogans.

People who attended the ceremony were waving Greek and Cypriot flags, cheering and applauding.

The elected President stood on the podium surrounded, among others, by his spouse, Philippa, his four daughters, other members of his family, the leaders and other members of the parties that supported his candidacy and members of his electoral staff.

Christodoulides’ supporters celebrated vigorously when he entered the Indoor Hall while a song was playing loud. The President-elect saluted the crowd, thanking them for their support.

Upon Christodoulides’ departure many people waited for him outside the Indoor Hall to congratulate him, while fireworks were shot.

The police took strict measures in and around the venue, to maintain the order.
