Nicosia: We hope that the US effort will yield a positive result, always in accordance with Ukraine’s wishes, Cyprus’ Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis, said on Monday, ahead of a meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Letymbiotis, speaking at the Presidential Palace, commented on a European leaders’ videoconference regarding Ukraine, where President Nikos Christodoulides was also present. The Spokesperson stated that they were informed about the outcomes of Friday’s meeting between the US and Russian Presidents, after Trump communicated with several European leaders via telephone.
He mentioned that the videoconference was organized by ‘Coalition of the Willing’ members, including leaders from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, to coordinate ahead of the Trump-Zelenskyy meeting.
During the videoconference, President Christodoulides reiterated Cyprus’ unwavering support for Ukraine. Cyprus, having faced the impacts of the Turkish invasion and occupation for over five decades, stands firmly with Ukraine, respecting the United Nations Charter, and the independence and territorial integrity of all nations.
Letymbiotis emphasized Nicosia’s backing for a feasible solution that aligns with international law and Ukraine’s desires. He expressed hope that the United States’ efforts would lead to a positive outcome, reflecting Ukraine’s wishes.
