New National Guard Leadership Focuses on Enhancing Combat Power

Stavrovouni: New Chief of National Guard Lieutenant General Emmanuel Theodorou has pledged to lead with meritocracy, impartiality, and honesty while aiming to further enhance the combat power of the National Guard. The announcement was made during the leadership handover ceremony held at “Stelios Mavrommatis Camp” in Stavrovouni.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas highlighted the significant responsibility resting on the new Chief to maintain the National Guard as a critical pillar of security and stability. Palmas praised the outgoing Chief’s service and the constructive cooperation they shared, expressing unwavering trust in Lieutenant General Theodorou. He emphasized that the primary goal remains the defense of Cyprus’ independence, national sovereignty, and territorial integrity, achievable through strengthening deterrent power and upgrading defensive capabilities.

Palmas also addressed the emerging challenges to international security, urging the new Chief to prioritize the safety and well-being of National Guard members, who are essential to the successful execution of their mission. In his remarks, Lieutenant General Theodorou acknowledged the rapidly changing geopolitical conditions, stressing the need for the National Guard to adapt and ensure the protection of Cyprus’ people and the defense of the Republic’s independence and integrity.
