Netanyahu to focus on East-Med gas pipe or liquefaction plant in Cyprus

Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, will focus on paths to export Israel’s gas during his meetings in Cyprus. Speaking to the press on Sunday before his departure for Cyprus, Netanyahu stated that he will focus on the East-Med gas pipeline or a liquefaction plant in Cyprus.

“I am leaving for a meeting with the leaders of Cyprus and Greece. I remind you that in 2016 we established the Eastern Mediterranean alliance”, he said at the airport.

He called this alliance “a great success”, noting that it led to a “huge improvement” in economic relations, tourism relations -adding that so far millions of Israelis have visited both Greece and Cyprus. Also, he said that this alliance has led to an improvement in security relations.

Adding that they are also discussing the issue of energy, he highlighted that on this issue, “there are decisions that we will have to make soon”.

Netanyahu said that Israel made another major progress by taking the gas from the sea. “This gives us not only the gas needs of the State of Israel, it also gives us the ability to export to Europe,” he added.

He said that Israel has several paths to export its gas, and noted that in his meetings in Cyprus he is going to focus on two of these paths. “And that is the East-Med gas pipeline or a liquefaction plant in Cyprus”, he concluded.
